Osteoporosis is common that causes bones become weak and easily broken. Preventive treatments and therapies are available for osteoporosis. The preventive treatment for osteoporosis includes diet, exercise and quitting smoking. It is essential that your diet should contain adequate calories; calcium and vitamin D which help maintains proper bone formation and density. Calcium intake should be increased by both men and women to prevent osteoporosis. The main sources of calcium include milk, cottage cheese, yogurt and green vegetables. Calcium supplements are recommended for those who cannot get enough calcium in diet. Vitamin D also helps reduce bone loss and fracture rate in older women and men. Protein supplements are recommended for those who already had an osteoporotic fracture. Alcohol consumption beyond a certain limit increases the risk of fracture due to falling, poor nutrition, etc.
